I can say that cheaper IPS's that I've owned ALWAYS have major issues like horrible contrast or horrible backlight bleed.įor this TN to be ~1000:1 I can say that I'm not missing the 3000:1 incredibly. So it's not so much the tech, it's more the monitor you're looking at. Not a pro so can't say 100% but I see no issues here. No color banding and colors look pretty good to me. The color on my TN for example is full 10-bit. This Asus TN is not the same quality as a $90 monitor.just as the IPS in a $150 monitor is not the same as the $1000 one. I think the big question here, really, is quality of the display. What monitors are you looking at getting?Ĭoming from an Eyefinity setup using three BenQ GW2450's (some of the best consumer monitors out there.AMVA 3000:1 contrast) to a Asus PB287Q (4K TN panel) I can say that.I'm extremely impressed. I would love a decently fast VA panel for day to day + gaming, but they still have some rather slow color transitions. I am not saying IPS is bad, it has the best viewing angles of any panel type outside of OLED and plasma right now Being able to see so many dark shades(shadow detail) makes them look very good. If one actually cars about contrast VA is the way to go, but it IS slower for sure. The amount of variations between colors is so much more noticeable on the screen to the left. In case you have never seen glow, it looks like this. IPS glow can also cover up darker detail in images and contrast is not its best attribute.

It is slower than TN, but faster on average than VA.

The top is almost always darker than the bottom and side to side movements change the colors as well. It has speed(thus why most higher speed monitors are TN) and can have as good of contrast and accuracy to a calibration tool.
